Whiteboard and diagram MCP servers: every one Claude can draw with
An MCP server lets Claude work inside another app. These 47 let it draw: on a whiteboard, in a diagram app, in a mind map or on a design canvas. 29 are made by the app's own maker and 17 need no account at all. For each one we read the maker's own page or README and list the address to paste into Claude, what you sign in with, and what it costs. We add new servers as they appear.
Short answer
- Free, no account: Excalidraw for quick diagrams you edit by hand, draw.io for technical diagrams that need a shape library, and tldraw for a live canvas in the chat. All three draw inside Claude.
- Claude Code or another local client: community servers such as mcp_excalidraw and drawio-mcp-server edit a canvas on your own computer, with no account.
- Your team already has a whiteboard: use its own server, so the diagram lands where people will edit it. Miro works on every plan with 100 tool calls a day on Free. FigJam needs a Full Figma seat to write. Lucid works on its Free plan.
- Excalidraw, tldraw or Miro: our side-by-side comparison covers the three apps, their servers and the prompt we ran in two of them.
- Diagrams as code: Mermaid Chart, which a free Basic account is enough for.
- Mind maps: Xmind's official server, or Whimsical's generate_mind_map. To try one with no account, MindMap.Town draws the map in the chat and keeps it in a link.
How to add one to Claude
- In Claude on the web or the desktop app, open Customize › Connectors.
- Search the directory for the app and connect it. Anthropic says directory connectors are available for all users, Free plan included.
- If it isn't listed, choose Add › Custom › Web and paste the address from the tables below. Free users are limited to one custom connector.
- If the table says OAuth, sign in to the app and allow access when asked. Then ask for a diagram in a new chat.
In Claude Code, add a server with one command, for example:
claude mcp add --transport http excalidraw https://mcp.excalidraw.com/mcpWhiteboards and diagram apps
Claude draws on the app’s own canvas, so the result is a board or diagram you can open and edit there.

What changed lately
- : The draw.io row now names the hosted server’s third tool, get_drawio_reference, which returns draw.io’s guide to writing a diagram in XML or Mermaid. It also links to our new draw.io MCP guide.
- : Added five more mind-map servers from Claude’s directory: MindMap and MindMap.Town, which need no account and draw the map inside the chat, plus CloudMindMaps, Coret and ClaroMap, which save maps to your account in their app. The directory now lists eight mind-map connectors, and all eight are on this page.
- : Added Heptabase, ToDiagram, MindMap AI and Penpot. Heptabase and MindMap AI are in Claude’s directory. ToDiagram runs on your computer with an API key, and Penpot gives each user their own server address.
- : Next to be added, once we have read their makers’ pages: Confluence whiteboards, Gamma, Paper and pen.dev.
- : Added Excalidraw+ and Collaboard. Both are in beta and neither is in Claude’s directory, so add them as custom connectors. Zoom’s MCP docs print a server address for Meetings but not yet for Whiteboard, so Zoom Whiteboard isn’t in the tables.
- : First version of this list. Every row comes from the maker’s own page: its docs, its README or its listing in Claude’s directory.
- : Mural’s MCP page still says “Coming soon”, though it links to a Mural listing in Claude’s directory. Mural hasn’t published a server address yet, so it isn’t in the tables.
- : We found tldraw’s server giving Claude two tools, search and exec, in place of separate tools for creating, updating and deleting shapes.
- : Miro removed its older board tools, and Claude now reads and writes Miro boards as SVG.
Not listed: Mural, until it publishes its server's address, and servers that only read a file without drawing anything.
Where Creatos fits
It isn't on this list. We make Creatos, a desktop canvas where a source such as a PDF connects to several AI models so you can read their answers side by side. It has no MCP server today, so Claude can't draw on it. If you want a diagram, use one of the servers above. If you want to see how Claude, GPT and Gemini differ on the same document, that is what Creatos is for. It costs $69 once, uses your own API keys or local models, and runs on macOS and Windows.
FAQ
What is a whiteboard MCP server?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is how an AI app such as Claude connects to other tools. A whiteboard or diagram MCP server lets Claude draw in that tool: it adds shapes, connectors, diagrams or mind maps that you can then open and edit, instead of describing the picture in text.
Which MCP servers let Claude draw diagrams for free?
Excalidraw, tldraw and draw.io run official servers that need no account at all. Miro, Lucid, Canva and Mermaid Chart work on their free plans once you sign in; Miro’s Free plan allows 100 tool calls a day. Eraser’s Free plan allows up to 3 files and 5 AI diagrams.
How do I add a whiteboard MCP server to Claude?
In Claude on the web or the desktop app, open Customize › Connectors and search the directory for the tool. If it isn’t there, choose Add › Custom › Web and paste the server address from the tables on this page. Anthropic says directory connectors are available for all users, Free plan included; Free users are limited to one custom connector. In Claude Code, use claude mcp add --transport http followed by a name and the address.
What is the best MCP server for diagrams?
For quick diagrams you can edit by hand, Excalidraw: it is free, needs no account and draws inside the chat. For technical diagrams that need a shape library, draw.io. If your team already works in Miro, FigJam or Lucid, use that tool’s own server so the diagram lands where your team will edit it. For diagrams kept as code, Mermaid Chart.
Is there an MCP server for mind maps?
Yes, several. Xmind’s official server, at https://app.xmind.com/api/mcp, lists, reads, creates and edits Xmind mind maps; it isn’t in Claude’s directory, so add it as a custom connector. In the directory, MindMap and MindMap.Town need no account and draw the map inside the chat, while MindMeister, MindMap AI, CloudMindMaps, Coret, ClaroMap and Whimsical save maps to your account in their own app.
Can Claude draw in Figma or FigJam?
Yes. Figma’s official server, at https://mcp.figma.com/mcp, has a generate_diagram tool that makes a FigJam diagram from a description or Mermaid code. Writing outside your drafts needs a Full seat. Figma says writing is free during the beta and will become a usage-based paid feature; View and Collab seats get up to 20 calls a month.
Does Creatos have an MCP server?
No. Creatos is a desktop canvas where a source such as a PDF connects to several AI models so you can compare their answers side by side, but it has no MCP server today, so Claude can’t draw on it. That is why it isn’t on this list.
How we check
We make Creatos, so read this with that in mind. Each server links to the page we read: the maker's docs, its README or its listing in Claude's directory. Every fact in its row comes from that page, not from a directory site that copies it. For the main hosted servers we also sent a connection request with no sign-in: if it answered, the table says None. Star counts for community servers are from GitHub on 15 October 2026. We ran Excalidraw and tldraw in Claude ourselves; their rows, and Miro's, link to our full guides.
